VP Human Resources for a Fast-Growing High-Tech Manufacturer with Multiple US Plants
A European-headquartered, family-owned manufacturer of high-tech components was rapidly expanding its footprint in North America. The market entry strategy had been a mix of acquiring existing plants and green fielding new factories. The US work force had grown to several hundred but the operations and processes underpinning the Human Resources function had not kept in sync with the rapid expansion. TH Bender was retained to find the elusive HR executive skilled in a multi-plant manufacturing environment with a strong track-record of working with unions who would fit into the culture of an owner-operated, European company. TH Bender identified a total of 412 potential candidates and put a total of 24 through its extensive, 10-step screening process. During two presentation rounds seven finalists were presented and after a total of 14 weeks the new Human Resource executive was selected. As a result of our placement conflicts with the unions have subsided, unionization efforts at new plants were halted, competitive compensation and benefits plans developed and methodologies, processes and procedures were brought in line with the requirements of the US subsidiary.
