M&A using Executive Search process to find partner

Our client was a successful plastic injection molder from Germany. Their innovative design helped them secure an agreement from one of the Big 3 U.S. One of the prerequisites of the agreement was that production of the cup holders should take place in the Midwest. Based on a highly specific list of criteria, we identified plastic molders in six relevant states along with their respective shareholders and key executives before evaluating their fit with our client’s objectives. After personally visiting the shortlisted companies, evaluating the ‘intangibles’ and running price calculations, our client decided that his interests were best served by entering a joint venture with one of the target companies. After a relatively short and straightforward negotiation process the newly created entity was staffed by experienced executives and soon thereafter one of America’s most popular cars was equipped with cup holders “Designed in Germany” and “Manufactured in the USA”.
